Germanium is a trace element found in large quantities in the earth's crust. It is
widely used as a semiconductor, as an alloying agent and catalyst and in
certain optical glasses. While it's role in human biologic functions is uncertain,
it has been called a miracle cure over the years. There is no current evidence
that it contains any healing properties for humans.

Researchers have studied the effects of germanium in the treatment of AIDS,
cancer, Epstein Barr Virus syndrome, and immunity strength. Although results
look promising, more research is needed before any serious claims can be
made.

Supplementing germanium is generally only recommended under a doctor's
supervision.
