Regular exercise is essential to not only good health, but also to good
nutrition. Why? Because in general, people who exercise on a regular basis
tend to make better food choices, so their overall diet tends to be more
nutritious. That is not to say that athletes (either professional or recreational)
do not ever eat junk food. It is just that people who exercise consistently can
better balance those foods without them having an effect on weight,
cholesterol, blood sugar or blood pressure.

Other reasons to exercise:

  2. Builds muscle and decreases fat tissue
  3. Increases heart rate
  4. Increases good (HDL) cholesterol
  5. Lowers blood pressure and blood sugar
  6. Improves overall cardiovascular fitness
  7. Improves muscle strength, flexibility and range of motion
  8. Increases bone mass
  9. Relieves stress and clears the mind
  10. Boosts self esteem
  11. Helps you sleep better
  12. Decreases your appetite and keeps you away from the refrigerator
  13. Provides an activity that family or friends can also participate in

If you are currently not exercising and wanting to start, check with your
physician first, especially if you are over 35 and have health problems that may require special advice.
